The City of Carmel Architecture Award honors inspirational leadership in landmark architecture and redevelopment in the City of Carmel. Mayor Sue Finkam, the City of Carmel and the Carmel Redevelopment Commission will present the 2025 Carmel Architecture Award to Stephen P. Sturtz (pictured), President of Pedcor Design Group, in recognition of his innovation in city design and architecture. Sturtz was influential in the design and realization of Carmel City Center, a transformational, multi-phase, mixed-use development in the heart of Carmel.
Carmel City Center is a masterfully designed development that emphasizes sustainability, walkability and architectural significance. The space was created with a vision to provide a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly environment. The development prioritizes high-quality public architecture, with beautiful, inspirational buildings that foster a sense of pride in the city.
Sturtz’ architectural vision for Carmel City Center is reminiscent of the great cities of Europe, designed to evoke the timeless elegance of classical styles. It was built according to the highest standards of classical architecture, drawing inspiration from the Georgian era. The buildings reflect this heritage, incorporating elements that evoke a sense of history and continuity, while also accommodating modern conveniences. The result is a space that feels both timeless and contemporary, where traditional design meets modern functionality. Sturtz’ attention to human-scale invites residents and visitors to enjoy the vibrant community atmosphere of Carmel City Center.
Sturtz is also recognized for his valuable work on other significant projects throughout Carmel, including Hotel Carmichael, The Tarkington Theater and James building, the Indiana Design Center and the Old Town Shops in the Arts & Design District.
