Congratulations, Officer Jellison!
Last week, Carmel Police Officer Jellison completed the final portion of Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) training and became the first female DRE in Carmel Police history. Not only did she complete the training, she graduated at the top of her class!
A DRE is an officer who is specially trained to detect drivers who may be drug impaired and identify the broad category or categories of drugs inducing the observable signs and symptoms of impairment. DREs are vitally important to the successful detection and prosecution of all impaired drivers and, in turn, play a key role in keeping our roadways safe.
Please join us in congratulating Officer Jellison on this impressive achievement!
Carmel Fire Department camp is a hit!

Where is the biggest tree in Carmel?
The City of Carmel has found the biggest tree in the city and it's a sycamore! The Carmel Urban Forestry Committee invited residents to submit their biggest trees in a month-long contest centered around this year’s Arbor Day. The City gathered measurements and inspected the entries to identify the biggest tree in Carmel.
Carmel has been recognized as a Tree City USA for 27 years and a Tree City Growth Award winner for more than 20, for our dedication of preserving and increasing the number of trees in our community. This is due primarily to an aggressive street tree program that, last year, added 600 more trees to our streets and boulevards. "I wanted to create this contest to highlight how many large old trees exist in our community and also show what a valuable asset they are as they provide shade, reduce heat islands caused by roads, and contribute to the overall beauty of our environment," said Mayor Jim Brainard.
The winning entry comes from the Wong family on Cool Creek Drive, who submitted their big tree that measured 271.8 inches in circumference, almost 60 inches bigger than the runner-up tree on Canary Court.
