CALLOUT FOR CORTONA SISTER CITY VOLUNTEERS
Interested in Carmel’s newest Sister City, Cortona, Italy? Join us today at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall to learn more about how you can be involved
CARMEL, IN – The City of Carmel is looking for volunteers to serve on a new not-for-profit Sister Cities Committee for Cortona, Italy and invites any resident of Carmel to attend an informational meeting TODAY, June 14, 5:30 p.m. in the 2nd floor Caucus Room at Carmel City Hall.
Carmel announced the new Sister City relationship last month with the City of Cortona, Arezzo, Italy, after Mayor Jim Brainard met with Cortona Mayor Luciano Meoni in Italy to sign the official agreement designed to promote international goodwill, understanding, student educational exchanges and expanded business relationships between the two cities and their respective nations. The new committee will oversee and help to promote and facilitate those cultural exchanges between Carmel and Cortona.
Cortona is a beautiful, historic city in the Tuscany area of Italy that enjoys landscapes of low mountains and lakes. It is known in the area as a city that appreciates the art of fine food and fine wines, in addition to beautiful art. Cortona is enclosed by stone walls dating back to Etruscan and Roman times and sits on a hill 1,968 feet above sea level. This dominant position over the valley offers a spectacular view from all over the town of the surrounding valley and Lake Trasimeno. The area is known for its wineries as well.
Join us to learn more about this exciting new opportunity.
