CARMEL, IN – Mayor Jim Brainard has appointed Chris Carlisle of BraunAbility, the Carmel-based global leader in the manufacture of mobility transportation solutions for the disabled, to serve on the City of Carmel’s Advisory Committee on Disability. Carlisle leads the marketing efforts for the firm, which opened its new corporate headquarters in Carmel in 2019.
“Chris will bring a great deal of knowledge and perspective to this committee and will help guide our efforts to be more accessible to our disabled residents and visitors,” said Mayor Brainard. “It is also important to note that BraunAbility’s willingness to serve our community is another indication of the support we enjoy from our corporate family of headquarters.”
Carlisle has been with the company since 2017 and led the project to move the company’s headquarters to Carmel. Under his leadership, BraunAbility launched the Drive for Inclusion, a social impact initiative designed to raise awareness of the challenges the disability community faces in navigating their everyday lives. Since its inception, the program has generated more than 500 million engagements on disability-related topics. Carlisle has also been an advocate and volunteer in BraunAbility’s internship and mentorship programs for students with disabilities.
Chris and his wife Sara moved to Carmel in 2011 with their three children, Emersen, Everett and Eleanor. Chris also serves on the Board of Directors for ALS Indiana whose mission is to enhance the quality of life of patients and support the families of those impacted by this terrible disease. Chris has volunteered his time on the Carmel Advisory Council on Disability since its inception, and with this appointment, he becomes an official member.
The Advisory Committee on Disability was established in 2019 for the purpose of fostering a culture of inclusivity within the City of Carmel. The Committee represents the diverse needs and interests of disabled people within our City, provides comment on the City’s current services, policies and practices and provides informed input on the development and assessment of future City projects and services that impact people with disabilities. The Committee also works with local employers to employ more people with disabilities and helps create positive social activities to enrich the lives of people with disabilities, their families and caregivers.
