New Carmel Police Chief Jeff Horner appoints Lt. Joe Bickel to serve as his Deputy Chief of Administration
New Carmel Police Chief Jeff Horner, who takes office on January 8, 2022, has announced he will appoint Lt. Joe Bickel to replace him and serve as his Deputy Chief of Administration. In that role, Bickel will manage all police staff functions that support the operational divisions of the Carmel Police Department, as well as develop plans and procedures to ensure efficient and effective support on a day-to-day and long-term basis.
Bickel has served the Carmel Police Department since June of 1994 in various capacities. He was a member of the CPD SWAT team from 1996 to 2010 and held the position of Sniper Team Leader for most of his tenure. He was a Field Training Officer for four years, a CPD Explorer Advisor for eight years, was promoted to Sergeant in 2000 and then Lieutenant in 2004.

Carmel will celebrate Indiana’s Classic Cars with 4 new roundabout sculptures on 96th Street corridor
The City of Carmel has commissioned four new roundabout sculptures for the 96th Street corridor that will celebrate “Indiana’s Classic Cars.” The new pieces will be designed by the artist Arlon Bayliss and are scheduled to be placed in 2022 and 2023. The four automobile themed sculptures will beautify the new roundabouts on 96th Street at Priority Way, Delegates Row, Gray Road and Hazel Dell Parkway.

CMYC Podcast Crew talks with CPD Chief Jim Barlow
Matthew DiDonna, Claire Qu and Trevor Tilev bring the tenth episode of "What's Up Carmel" presented by Carmel Mayor's Youth Council. In this episode, the crew interviews Carmel Police Chief Jim Barlow. Barlow recently announced his retirement after 38 years with the City of Carmel Police Department. In this podcast, he shares some of the things he has learned and amazing stories from his time as a policeman and as chief.

Henry Mestetsky, Executive Director of the Carmel Redevelopment Commission, explains how Carmel has used Tax Increment Financing (TIF) to spur large development projects and grow a vibrant, walkable downtown. The 4-part series weaves together architecture, urban planning, local tax policy and awesome before-and-after pictures everyone can enjoy. Mestetsky also discusses coming projects and clears up TIF misconceptions.

City of Carmel 'Bleed Blue' Blood Drive
The City of Carmel, the Indianapolis Colts Bleed Blue program and Versiti (Bloodmobile) will host blood drives open to the public, in December on the following dates and locations. Registration for December 28 is now open. Sign up below!
December 28 - Water Treatment Plant, 4915 E. 106th Street, 10:45 a.m. - 1 p.m.
To make this event even more special, there is a contest between Carmel Police and Fire Departments to see who can generate the most donations. When you donate, ask the blooodmobile technician for a Vote Police (blue) or Vote Fire (red) ballot.
Donors will be given a voucher to order online at the December 28 drive.
Get involved with CYAP
In this season of giving, the Carmel Youth Assistance Program is a local organization with many opportunities to serve Carmel students and their families. CYAP works in collaboration with the Carmel Clay School District, City of Carmel and the Hamilton County Superior Court.

Republic Services holiday schedule
The week AFTER Christmas and the week AFTER New Year's Day when a holiday falls on a Saturday, which is NOT a normal service day, Trash and Recycling residential service will NOT be delayed.
CHRISTMAS There will NOT be a one-day delay the week AFTER Christmas. Pick-up/Service Day will remain the same as normal the week of December 27, 2021.
NEW YEAR'S There will NOT be a one-day delay the week AFTER New Year's Day. Pick-up/Service Day will remain the same as normal the week of January 3, 2022.

Carmel Utilities - Holiday lights recycling
Carmel Clay Schools Green Teams, City of Carmel Utilities, Tech Recyclers and White’s Ace Hardware are working together to make it a green holiday season by offering a Holiday Light Recycling Drive.
Now through through January 20, residents can recycle used and unwanted holiday lights at White’s Ace Hardware at 731 South Range Line Road. The Carmel Clay Schools Green Teams will be offering recycling at the individual schools now through January 6.

Movies at Midtown Saturdays through December
Head to Midtown Plaza for Allied Solutions' Movies at Midtown! Movies will run on Saturdays through December. Show times are noon, 3 and 6 p.m. Times are subject to change as we will also show occasional live sports.
December 18 - Elf There will be a showing at 6 p.m. this Saturday
Hand sanitizer stations are still available throughout Midtown Plaza and please don't forget to clean up your surroundings once you've enjoyed the movie. Be sure to follow Midtown Plaza's Facebook page for all events.
