Lake County Health Department Coronavirus (COVID-19) Newsletter

April 18, 2020

Dear Residents,

As you may be awarestaff members from every Lake County department have been working together to keep you informed about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic through this newsletter, daily updates, our website, social media channels and other avenues. We have been heartened to hear back from many of you asking what you can do to help.

This week, we announced the launch of our ‘Stay Home, Save Lives’ campaign, covering the basics of COVID-19, social distancing, and the importance of staying at home to protect yourself and others. The campaign toolkit is available at www.lakecountyil.gov/stayhomesavelives and contains a wealth of information in English and Spanish, including videos, social media messaging, printable resources and more.

We need your help.

Please help share these important messages to help us slow the spread of this disease. Take the first step in supporting the campaign by using the Stay Home Save Lives facebook profile picture frame today. Organizations interested in promoting the campaign should contact Danielle Ryan, dryan@lakecountyil.gov.

Personal Protective Equipment: If you or your business have access to PPE, please consider making a donation. Surgical, earloop and N-95 masks, gowns, gloves, eye protection, disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizer and forehead thermometers are among the most needed supplies. All items should be in the manufacturer’s original packaging and unopened.

Donations of PPE in small amounts that can be transported in a personal vehicle can be coordinated with Rebecca Kumar, Lake County Emergency Management Specialist, RKumar@lakecountyil.gov. Large donations can be made through the State of Illinois website.

Handmade face coverings: Community organizations have also requested donations of sewn cloth face coverings to distribute to vulnerable populations. Those who are willing to make and donate masks can find details on the United Way of Lake County’s COVID-19 Volunteer Opportunities page. English and Spanish instructions for making cloth masks are available on the Health Department and CDC websites.

April 23 Food Drive: Lake County Government departments are joining together to sponsor a drive-thru food drive to benefit the Northern Illinois Food Bank.  Please bring donations of non-perishable food items on Thursday, April 23, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 18 N. County St., Waukegan. No need to get out of your car—simply pop open your trunk and our volunteers will collect your donation.
