Lake County Board Chairman Proclaims State of Emergency Due to Significant Flooding

On Wednesday, July 12, 2017, Lake County Board Chairman Aaron Lawlor signed a proclamation declaring that severe flooding has created a disaster in Lake County, Illinois. The proclamation was signed late Wednesday night, and sent to Governor Rauner and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency.

We expect the Des Plaines and Fox Rivers to crest above major flood level on Saturday, July 15. The Lake County Emergency Operations Center is actively monitoring river levels and weather forecasts. We are also coordinating with local jurisdictions and partners to ensure resources are getting to where they need to go.

In addition to rising river levels, many communities are also experiencing localized flooding. Widespread flooding has compromised roadways and other public works infrastructure.

Chairman Lawlor said, “I want to thank our public works staff, first responders, volunteers and neighbors across Lake County who are helping us respond to what is expected to be a record flood. The past 24 hours have been very challenging for the residents of Lake County as we respond to the flood. Once the waters recede, recovery, clean-up, and damage assessment will continue for weeks. It’s important to remember we are all in this together.”

Watch for updates on Lake County's Facebook page. We will be posting information as the situation develops.
