Community Events
"Deconstruction" is the name, Repurposing is the game!
The garage aka the "barn" at 1419 Emerson St. is in the process of being dismantled by the Rebuilding Exchange, as a part of the City's Emerson/ Jackson Affordable Housing Redevelopment project. Their goal is to divert waste from landfills by repurposing as much wood, metal and flooring as possible, to be sold at their retail store. The work, which is being performed by transitional employees in the organization's building trades workforce training program, is what is referred to as "deconstruction". Cook County's Demolition Debris Diversion Ordinance has allowed the County to recycle or reuse 90 percent of building materials from demolitions and renovations.
There's even a historical documentation process happening through the Shorefront Legacy Center. Read more about this story in the RoundTable.
That’s it for today's e-news. Thanks for reading!
Sincerely,
The City of Evanston Communications Team
