Skokie Man Charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon
EVANSTON, IL - On April 29, 2022, at approximately 11:55 a.m. Evanston Police were on patrol the area of 1800 Madison Street. While they were on patrol, they observed a subject known to them as Jacquis Irby. Officers attempted to make contact with Irby but he fled on foot. Officers gave chase and Irby was stopped in the 500 block of Dodge Avenue.
While officers were chasing Irby they located a firearm in a front yard in the 1700 block of Madison Street. The loaded firearm, a 9mm "ghost gun", was recovered. Officers suspected Irby discarded the gun while he was fleeing, but the initial investigation did not establish probable cause for charges.
The UUW investigation continued. The investigation included processing the handgun for forensic evidence. Based on the follow-up investigation, the forensic evidence, and further analysis by the crime lab, it was determined that Irby had possessed the firearm. The investigation also revealed that Irby did not have a FOID card or a Concealed Carry License.
On November 29, 2022, the Skokie Police Department arrested Irby on separate charges. Once in Skokie Police custody, Evanston detectives continued their investigation. The Cook County State's Attorney's Office reviewed the case and approved one felony count of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon by Felon. See below for additional charges.
