Boise - Idaho Department of Lands (IDL) is pleased to announce a new Good Neighbor Authority (GNA) agreement with the Sawtooth National Forest.
The agreement provides the opportunity for IDL and the Forest Service to partner on authorized forest, rangeland and watershed restoration projects. Activities may include treatment of insect and disease infected trees, reduction of hazardous fuels, and activities to restore or improve forest rangeland and watershed health. Timber sales may also be conducted on the National Forest System. Revenue from the timber sales help fund restoration work on the forest.
The new agreement also includes $2,945,225.00 in federal funds for implementation of fuels reduction work on the Salt Bowns Vegetation Management Projects which focuses on reforestation work on four separate wildfires (Wapiti, Bench Lake, Frog, Chimney) that occurred in 2024.
This is a new partnership is significant because the Sawtooth National Forest was the only National Forest in Idaho that did not have a GNA agreement with IDL.
