Nettleton Gulch Fire Update

June 30, 2025, 12:00 p.m. PT

(Coeur d’Alene) – The Nettleton Gulch Fire is currently about 26 acres.  Last night, crews were able to establish hand lines on two-thirds of the west flank.  The fire is burning in timber.

Today firefighters will continue building a fire line to minimize fire growth and installing hose lays to deliver water to the fire.  There are no evacuations and no structures at risk.

There are multiple engines working the fire, two water tenders, two 20-person hand crews and both rotor and fixed wing aircraft assisting with waterdrops. Due to the steep terrain, the use of heavy equipment is limited.

The Nettleton Gulch fire was reported on June 29, 2025, at approximately 1:20 p.m. near the popular recreation area, Canfield Mountain, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.  All wildfires under IDL protection are investigated.

Our priority is public firefighter safety. A Temporary Flight Restriction is in place and remains in effect over the Canfield Mountain area. Unauthorized drone and aircraft pose a serious hazard to firefighting and law enforcement activities. If you fly, we can’t. For firefighter safety we also ask the public to remain clear of the Canfield Mountain area.

There is a law enforcement incident investigation happening at the fire’s location. All questions regarding the law enforcement investigation should be directed to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department.  Their contact is Lt. Mark Ellis, PIO cell: 208-758-1045, email: sopio@kcgov.us.
