Wallen Fire – Final Update

October 6, 2024, 8 PM PT

Date of Origin: October 4, 2024

Location: approximately 2 miles northeast of Moscow, ID

Estimated Size: 138 acres

Containment: 100%

Cause: Under Investigation

Current situation:

All evacuation levels and road closures have been lifted.

The estimated size of the wildfire is larger due to better mapping. While the weather was hotter and drier today, it did not affect fire behavior. Fire activity was primarily creeping and smoldering.

Firefighters spent the day setting hose lay, cutting hazard trees and beginning mop-up operations. The fire continues to lay down at night.

Idaho Department of Lands firefighters will continue to be on scene until there is no smoke within 100 feet of the fire's perimeter. Five engines will be working the perimeter tomorrow.

Smoke will continue to be visible within the perimeter of the fire for many days to come and should not be a concern for the public.
