DCG SPECIAL ELECTION
Election Date:
Tuesday, April 11, 2023
Poll Hours:
7:00 am – 8:00 pm
Voter Eligibility:
To Vote in a Special Election one must be a U.S. citizen, 18 years of age, not currently judged by a court to be “incompetent to vote,” and not convicted of a felony (or have received a restoration of rights).
Absentee Voting:
Absentee ballots for the April 11, 2023 Special Election will be available to be voted in the Dallas County Auditor’s Office beginning on March 22, 2023.
Absentee ballots may be cast in person at the Dallas County Auditor’s Office at 210 N 10th St., Adel, IA, during regular office hours Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from March 22, 2023 until Monday, April 10, 2023.
Absentee ballots to be mailed must be requested in writing. Forms are available at the Auditor’s Office and our website.
All requests for ballots to be mailed must be received by the Auditor’s Office by 5 p.m. on March 27, 2023. In order for your ballot to count, it must be returned by the close of polls at 8 p.m. on Election Day.
Voter Registration:
The deadline to register to vote is 5 p.m. on Monday, March 27, 2023. The Dallas County Auditor’s Office will be open on March 27, 2023 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. After this date, new voters can still register at the Auditor’s office or register on Election Day at the polling place for the precinct in which they currently reside. The voter will be required to show proof of residency and identity. One form of ID is a valid Iowa Driver’s license with the voter’s current address. Proof of residency must be current within the last 45 days:
- Property tax statement
- Utility bill
- Bank Statement
- Paycheck
- Government check
- Other government document
A current photo ID which is valid and contains an expirations date can be used for proof of identity. Among valid documents are:
- Out-of-state driver’s license
- Non-driver identification card
- US passport
- US military ID
- ID card issued by employer
- Iowa high school or college ID
- Veteran ID
Where to Pre-Register:
The Dallas County Auditor’s Office, 210 N 10th Street, Adel, IA on weekdays between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Registration forms can also be found on our website. Send forms to: Dallas County Auditor’s Office; 210 N 10th Street, Adel, IA 50003.
Registration Changes:
Name, party and address changes if you are already registered within Dallas County may be made any time up to and including Election Day. Prior to Election Day, changes are made by the same means as voter registration. On Election Day, changes may be made at the voters’ polling place. If the voter has changed their address, the voter will need to go to the voter’s new polling site.

Any eligible elector of the DCG- CSD may vote at their regular city/school polling location below:
- Emmanuel United Methodist Church: 1910 Locust St, Granger
- 1st Presbyterian Church: 1204 13th St, Dallas Center
- Adel Library: 303 S 10th St, Adel

Public Testing:
Public testing of the voting equipment will begin on Wednesday March 29, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. and continue until completed. This test will be conducted at the Dallas County Auditor’s office located at 210 N. 10th Street, in Adel, Iowa.

- Shall the Following Public Measure Be Adopted?
Shall the Board of Directors of the Dallas Center-Grimes Community School District, in the County of Dallas, State of Iowa, change the method of election of its seven (7) directors, from three (3) directors elected at large by the electors of the entire district, no more than two at each regular school election, and election of the remaining four (4) directors as residents of and by the electors of individual geographic districts established on the basis of population and identified as director districts, no more than two at each regular school election, pursuant to Iowa Code Section 275.12(2)(e), to all seven (7) directors elected at large from the entire school district by the electors of the entire school district pursuant to Iowa Code Section 275.12(2)(a)?
