Attempted Murder Investigation-UPDATE
Date: April 13, 2022
On April 13, 2022 the suspect in this investigation was released from Mercy Hospital in downtown Des Moines. He was immediately arrested and transported to the Dallas County Jail. The suspect has been identified as Jason Weigum, 40 years old who resides at 22760 Laredo Trail.
Weigum has been charged with 2 counts of Attempted Murder (class B Felony), Criminal Mischief 1st Degree (class C Felony), and Arson 1st Degree (Class B Felony).
Gerard Thompson and Neil O'Sullivan reside at 22760 Laredo Trail also and were present during this incident. Thompson is still receiving care at the Burn Treatment Center in Iowa City for 2nd and 3rd degree burns he received from the fire.

Adel, IA - On April 10, 2022 at 7:48 PM Dallas County Dispatch took a 911 phone call for a house fire located at 22760 Laredo Trail in rural Adel, Iowa. According to the 911 phone call, someone poured gasoline inside the house and lit it on fire.
Dallas County EMS, Minburn Fire Department, and the Dallas County Sheriff's Office were all dispatched to the scene. The residence was actively burning when first responders arrived. The house was eventually made safe by fire personnel and received significant damage from the fire.
Dallas County EMS did transport 2 people to area hospitals. One of the people transported is now in Iowa City at the Burn Treatment Center. The extent of their injuries is not immediately known at this time.
The Dallas County Sheriff's Office is actively investigating this incident as an Arson and an Attempted Murder. The names of the people involved are being withheld at this time pending the results of the investigation.
