This week, the City of Treasure Island proudly celebrates National Public Works Week and honors the dedicated men and women who keep our community strong, safe, and beautiful every day.
This year’s theme, “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community,” perfectly captures the spirit of the Treasure Island Public Works Team. You see their work in freshly paved roads, beautifully maintained landscaping, clean beaches after early-morning raking, accessible beach paths, and well-kept public facilities. Just as important is the vital work you may not see, including stormwater system maintenance, pump station operations, and the many behind-the-scenes efforts that protect our island and keep everything running smoothly.
From visible improvements that enhance our daily lives to the essential infrastructure that safeguards our future, every project reflects a deep commitment to service and a genuine partnership with our community. Together, these efforts form the strong foundation of a thriving Treasure Island.
To Treasure Island’s entire Public Works team: thank you for your hard work, professionalism, and dedication. You are the strength behind our island’s beauty and resilience.

Celebrating 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence calls for more than just one day of fireworks and hot dogs. An anniversary this big deserves a whole year of patriotic pride, and that’s exactly what the City of Treasure Island has planned.
Kicking things off in true Treasure Island style, a Patriotic Boat Parade will set sail on Saturday, May 23, at 9 a.m. This is not a political event. It’s a fun, family-friendly flotilla bursting with red, white, and blue spirit, with boats decked out with American flags, sparkling with stars and stripes, and radiating American pride.
The parade route starts behind the Publix, cruises around Treasure Bay, sails under the Treasure Island Causeway bridge, weaves through the Isle of Palms and Isle of Capri neighborhoods and drops anchor in John’s Pass. It’s the perfect way to showcase our beautiful waterways while honoring America’s milestone birthday.
Want to join the fun? Register your boat to become part of the fleet, or grab your lawn chair, slap on your brightest red, white, and blue outfit, wave a flag, and cheer from the shore. Treasure Bay will be open to the public and offers one of the best viewing spots in the area.
Let’s make some waves and celebrate 250 years of freedom the Treasure Island way, with boats, sunshine, and pride.
For more details or to register your boat, visit MyTreasureIsland.com/TI250. You can also call the Parks and Recreation Department at 727-547-4575, ext. 246, or email recreation@mytreasureisland.org.

The City of Treasure Island will close the sidewalk and the right westbound lane on the Treasure Island Causeway Bascule Bridge on Thursday, May 21, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Crews will be performing essential repairs to the bridge control tower, which requires the use of a boom lift. The lift will be parked in the right westbound lane, with the boom extending over the sidewalk for the duration of the work.
During this time, westbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane, and pedestrians and cyclists should plan to use the eastbound sidewalk or an alternate route.
We appreciate residents’ and visitors’ patience as we complete these important maintenance repairs.

This past Saturday, May 15, a brave group of Treasure Island leaders and staff suited up for Fire Ops 101 and got the full firefighter experience, complete with smoke, heat, adrenaline, and the physical exertion that comes with it. They crawled, climbed, dragged, and sweated like true firefighters.
Props to Human Resources Director Jessica Zamora, CFO Victor Ortiz, Arden Commissioner Dickey, City Clerk Lisa Kennedy, and Economic Development Director Joan Goodrich for jumping in and participating.
Thanks to Treasure Island Fire Rescue and Local 4966 for showing them what our firefighters face every day and why proper staffing and modern equipment matter so much.
Special thanks to Fireground 24 Photography for providing us with these great pictures from the ops.

The Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council will facilitate an informational presentation regarding the Coastal Master Plan during the City Commission Workshop scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, at 5 p.m., in the Commission Chambers at City Hall, located at 10451 Gulf Boulevard.
The Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council (TBRPC) is spearheading the Tampa Bay Coastal Master Plan (TBCMP), a four-year, grant-funded initiative (2025-2028) aimed at bolstering regional resilience by addressing inland and coastal flooding impacts through a coordinated, data-informed, and community-inclusive planning process. Throughout this initiative, the TBCMP will identify flood-prone communities, prioritize restoration and flood mitigation projects, and guide long-term adaptation strategies across seven counties, including Pinellas County.
The objectives of the TBCMP encompass the development of the inaugural plan, fostering regional coordination, encouraging community participation, maximizing co-benefits for flood and habitat risk mitigation, and informing local and regional adaptation investments. The City of Treasure Island has provided a letter of support to the TBRPC, endorsing it as a collaborator in the development of this plan and pledging support for its implementation within our region.
Residents and business owners are also invited to participate in Community Flood Listening Sessions, providing an opportunity to share concerns related to local flooding and community flood risks. These sessions will be held on the fifth floor of City Hall on the following dates:

Just a friendly reminder, Treasure Island encourages homeowners to double-check that all required building inspections, especially the final one, have been completed and approved before making the final payment to your contractor.
While it’s always best to follow your contract’s payment schedule, verifying that inspections are completed adds an extra layer of protection for your investment and helps ensure that everything is up to code.
- Make sure your contractor is properly licensed by visiting the city’s code compliance page at https://bit.ly/3OZsAEl.
- Also, confirm that permits have been issued and are posted visibly.
- Before wrapping up your project, double-check that all inspections have been successfully completed.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact the city’s building department at 727-547-4575 x264 or email building@mytreasureisland.org.
For more tips on how to keep yourself from getting scammed, check out this Anchors Aweigh podcast from a few months ago. Treasure Island Police Department Master Officer Douglas goes into detail on how to keep yourself safe. Check it out: https://youtu.be/_P-tARJeXjg?si=GnDlKv5drylZUBvx

The City asks all property owners to close out any open permits related to their properties.
As we prepare for a new storm season, it's important to understand that any open permits related to previous storm repairs will be combined with the cost of new damage repairs if another storm occurs. This total could potentially surpass the 50% Substantial Damage/Substantial Improvement threshold.
To mitigate this risk, ensure all permits are properly closed. Closing permits (through final inspections if work is completed or other verification methods) "resets" the record, protects property value, prevents future claim or assessment issues, and keeps everything compliant and organized.
