Why its so challenging to address the Bus Stops at 18th and 19th Streets and Minnesota Ave their condition and issues with loitering or doing drugs in them

Things on the agenda: Targeted ANC 8A Moratorium Zone Amendment Act of 2026, Under this bill, the area would be capped at three Class A and one Class B off-premises retailer licenses, though these restrictions would not apply to full-service grocery stores, hotels, or dining establishments.

Surprise Grocery Update: (across from Boone) has withdrawn their interest in opening 24 x 7

8A Commission Donohue requests written apology from the full commission after the commission met on March 30th without notifying Commissioner Donohue of the scheduled meeting.  Our next commission meeting will take place May 5, 2026 register for this virtual meeting at 

Community Cleanup Day: No one showed.  Tentitive future dates: June 27th and August 8th from 10:00am through 1:00pm.  Its possible the DC National Guard will assist us in these clean ups.

2nd Annual Party in the Park: I am forming a planning committee for our second annual celebration! If you would like to help organize this event, please join us at the next meeting.

Cedar Hill Hospital & concerning events Donohue seeks agency heads discuss this southeast hospital at full commission meeting  

Dear Neighbors, I was involved in an assault and robbery that occurred on Wednesday, April 22, at approximately 7:30 a.m. near in the 1900 block of Minnesota Avenue right by the bus stop. While documenting & discussing with neighbors conditions at the 19th Street bus stop, I engaged in a brief conversation with four individuals regarding public smoking and encouraged them to move away from the sidewalk where students were gathering for school. Following this exchange, one woman followed me from Q Street onto Minnesota Avenue.

She forcibly took both of my mobile phones and demanded payment for their return. After I successfully recovered my property, and while on the phone with 911, the individual struck me multiple times in the head and upper body, damaging my prescription glasses, before fleeing into the alley toward the 1800 block of Q Street SE.

To be clear, I am unharmed but insistent that this individual be held accountable for her actions. I dedicate a significant amount of time to helping others; anyone who believes they can interfere with that mission by resorting to physical violence will be met with the full resources of the Metropolitan Police Department. Violence against us volunteer Commissioners is not acceptable, nor will it be tolerated.

Request for Evidence: I am requesting that residents in the immediate vicinity review security camera or Ring doorbell footage from Wednesday morning between 7:15 a.m. and 7:45 a.m.

Despite this incident, I remain committed to my outreach-based approach and long-term revitalization goals for this corridor, including coordination with DBH, DHS, and community partners.  I am committeed to bringing our district agencies to those in need and doing whatever I can to encourage those who need services to get services.
