D.C. Office on Aging (DCOA) Executive Director John M. Thompson, Ph.D. was interviewed today on Senior Corner on Spirit 1340 AM, WYCB. During the segment, Dr. Thompson discussed programs and services offered by DCOA, the Mayor’s New Community Living Strategic Plan, the Ambassador Program and volunteer opportunities available through the DCOA. The D.C. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and the DCOA delivered holiday
treats to exceptional seniors and those in need of holiday cheer on December 24. Five seniors were treated to these holiday creations delivered by MPD Chief Diane Groomes and Dr. Thompson. Treats were delivered to Raymond Ball, Johnnie Cain, Maureen Gehrig Cook, Elizabeth Hicks and Willie Nelson.

We all have a
role to play in ensuring the safety of our families and community. In 95
percent of emergencies, a victim or bystander provides the first immediate
assistance on the scene. Do you have the skills and information necessary to
keep yourself and your family as safe as possible? Serve DC – The Mayor’s Office on Volunteerism provides anyone who
lives, works or congregates in the District of Columbia with free emergency
preparedness training, including the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
program, which educates citizens about the hazards most likely to affect their
community and provides basic disaster response training, including: fire
safety, first aid, search and rescue, terrorism, and more. Learn more about Community

The Cleveland Park Village (CPV) seeks a high energy, well
organized, experienced and caring individual as its founding executive director
to begin by March 1, 2013. CPV is a non profit member service organization
committed to helping senior neighbors remain in their homes through the
practical help provided by neighborhood volunteers. All inquiries, nominations and applications, including a
