Maker of the Month: Lori Weissman
Each month, the Art Spot Silverthorne Makerspace highlights a Maker of the Month to showcase the talented artists and creators in our community.
Artist Lori Weissman has always loved to paint and draw. Growing up with an artistic father, she was surrounded and influenced by art from a young age. She studied Fine Art, Illustration, and Textile Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and went on to work in the garment industry as a textile designer. "I ultimately chose textiles as my focus because of the freedom of expression and the endless possibilities it offered, moving from painting by hand to all computer graphic design," says Lori.
Upon moving to Colorado, she found an opportunity to learn ceramics at Colorado Mountain College, and her love for the medium grew further when she worked at Ready Paint Fire and upon discovering the Art Spot.
At the Art Spot, Lori loves the open workspace and being surrounded by so much creativity. "The space is a wonderful addition to our growing community here in Silverthorne and a peaceful spot to work and relax away from life’s stressors," she says. "I love working among all the wonderful creative people, the flexible hours, the space and endless opportunities to learn, be inspired and create."
Looking forward, Lori says right now is the future. "I simply hope to find more time to get messy and continue to explore artistic endeavors."
