Maker of the Month: Ilene Haigh
Each month, the Art Spot Silverthorne Makerspace highlights a Maker of the Month to showcase the talented artists and creators in our community.
In grade school, artist Ilene Haigh created a paper mâché bride that was featured at a corporate show at the Lever House in New York City. She began taking ceramics classes in middle school and has continued ever since. When her son was born 27 years ago, she went to the pottery wheel, thinking she would be bored during her maternity leave! Ilene says she has always loved the feeling of clay and has been learning under the instruction of a wonderful Japanese potter named Keiko Ashida at the Clay Art Center in New York for the past decade.
At the Art Spot, Ilene enjoys the welcoming community and the wheels and equipment available for ceramics. After finding the Art Spot last year when visiting for a month, Ilene returned this year for a ski trip because of the artist community in Summit County. The warm and inviting atmosphere, the people, materials, and the ease of membership (her first-ever senior discount!) have kept her coming back to the Art Spot.
Outside of art, Ilene is a rabbi. "Making art, particularly clay, is a centering experience for me," says Illene. She continues to learn new ceramics techniques and is taking on new chances with plates and covered vessels, while also learning to paint. Regarding her future in art, Illene says she would like “to continue to make art wherever I am and keep expanding my artistic endeavors; the possibilities are endless, and the co-creation is infinite."

When the members of a devoted book club become the subjects of a documentary filmmaker, their long-standing group dynamics take a hilarious turn. Add a provocative new member, some eyebrow-raising new book titles, and this gathering of six bibliophiles is about to spiral out of control. A delightful play about life, love, literature, and the side-splitting results when friends start reading between the lines.
Plus, leaning into the show’s literary theme, Theatre SilCo is partnering with Friends of The Summit County Libraries for a book drive during the play's production. Patrons are encouraged to bring their gently used books to the show, or other drop-off locations at Axis Sports Medicine in Breckenridge; Wilderness Exclusives Fine Art Photography in Frisco; Timberline Craft Kitchen & Cocktails in Silverthorne; and the Summit County Library North Branch in Silverthorne. All book donations benefit the Summit County Libraries.
