Maker of the Month: Shannon Jakoby
Each month the Art Spot Silverthorne Makerspace is highlighting a Maker of the Month to showcase the talented artists and creators in our community.
Artist Shannon Jakoby has always loved to create things and work with her hands. At a young age, she learned the art of pyrography (wood burning) from her grandfather. Over the years, Shannon enjoyed building and restoring furniture, but never had much time to focus on her endeavors while working. "Like a lot of people, COVID changed things for me and I was able to reinvent my life and started working on art full time in 2020," says Shannon.
Shannon grew up in the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon and moved to Colorado in 1999. For a few years, Shannon and her husband lived in the Caribbean where they ran scuba diving trips and sailing charters out of the British Virgin Islands before returning to Colorado. After many years working at the Dillon Marina, Shannon and her husband quit their jobs and took a year off to travel around Central American in an RV with their son. After returning post-COVID, she started creating art full-time.
"I love the space at the Art Spot. They have every tool I need and the perfect space to create in. They also have additional tools I've never used before and I can take classes to become more familiar with them," says Shannon. She enjoys seeing other artists create at the Art Spot and the community members that participate in classes. "It is a very inspiring place."
