Recreate Responsibly on the Water this Summer
As you get out on the water this summer—whether you're paddling, boating, or simply enjoying the views from Dillon Reservoir or other bodies of water in Summit County—please prioritize safety. Always check the weather forecast before heading out, and keep an eye on changing conditions while you're on the water. Afternoon storms can roll in quickly, and if the weather starts to turn, it’s safest to head back to shore. Be sure to bring the right safety gear, including properly fitting life jackets for everyone on board and leashes for paddleboards. And remember—swimming is not allowed in Dillon Reservoir. Let's keep our summer adventures safe and fun for all!

Summit County residents encouraged to comment on Xcel’s proposed Mountain Energy Project
Summit County’s primary energy provider, Xcel Energy, has introduced a non-pipeline alternative solution to enhance its Eastern Mountain Gas System in Summit and surrounding counties. The proposed Mountain Energy Project involves the construction of large compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) sites across the County (including locations along Highways 9 and 6 in the towns of Keystone, Breckenridge and Frisco). The construction of these visible sites will have lasting effects on the community, including but not limited to the social and environmental impacts of new gas sites, increased energy costs borne by local ratepayers to pay for the project, and the lack of incentives to reduce demand for and reliance upon natural gas across the community.
The Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC), which regulates utilities and facilities across the state, is considering approval of the Mountain Energy Project. Residents of Summit County are encouraged to participate in the public comment process to help guide the PUC to their decision.
