Public hearing scheduled to determine if any changes should be made to the county’s 6-month moratorium on the processing of new oil and gas permits. In lieu of testimony being taken in person on June 28, testimony will be taken in the form of written comments submitted in advance; the deadline to receive comments is Monday, June 27 by 4 p.m.
Boulder County, Colo. – The
Board of County Commissioners has scheduled a public hearing to consider
written public comment and to determine if any changes should be made to the 6-month
moratorium (adopted May 19, 2016) on the
processing of new oil and gas permits.
Resolution
2016-65,
which imposed the moratorium, established
a 45-day deadline to set and notice a public hearing for the purpose of
deciding whether the 6-month moratorium should be terminated or otherwise
amended.
Written testimony will be reviewed by the Board as part of the public hearing on
Tuesday, June 28 at 1 p.m.
On May 19, the County Commissioners rescinded the county’s previous moratorium, which was set to expire in
July 2018, and adopted a new
moratorium that expires on November 18, 2016.
The new moratorium of shorter duration was established in order to allow time for the formulation and public review of
any amendments to current county land use and environmental regulations
governing oil and gas regulation in the unincorporated areas of Boulder County.
