Coach Al served as our inspiring keynote speaker, helping us celebrate the incredible contributions of Dawn Allen, Melissa Edwards, Zacil Pech Hernandez, and Julia Muruato.
Thank you to Coach Al and his team for the uplifting and empowering speech and for creating a video that captures the heart of the 2025 CASP Awards. It’s a meaningful way for us to remember and reflect on this special event.

Shining in Our Community
Once Upon a Rodeo - Kiddie Kapers Parade
Thousands gathered in the Salinas City Center to cheer on over 1,200 children as they paraded through downtown on floats, bikes, wagons, scooters, and more, marking the festive start of Big Week and the California Rodeo Salinas.
Grouped into eight divisions, kids competed in categories like Cowboys & Cowgirls, Dance & Drill Teams, and Rolling Riders, all encouraged to wear western attire. Judging was done by volunteers, with 1st–3rd place winners in each category. Two standout cowpoke winners (one boy and one girl) rode in special cars at the front of the parade.
Each child received a commemorative ribbon, a $1 bill, and local coupons. With cheers, music, and hometown pride, the Kiddie Kapers Parade was a heartwarming kickoff to Salinas’ biggest celebration of the year.

At Parks California, we believe that everyone deserves a world-class park experience that can lead to a lifelong connection with nature. However, documented disparities, such as the lack of transportation or public transit options can be a barrier to fostering personal connections with the outdoors.
To help ensure that all communities, including people who have been historically marginalized, have an opportunity to visit and enjoy California State Parks, Parks California launched the Route to Parks grants program in 2020 to support local organizations that are best able to address transportation and other obstacles faced by these communities.
The City of Salinas will only accept applications for job postings that are currently open. To view a listing of our current employment opportunities and apply for positions, please visit our Government Jobs career page.
