Community Emergency Response Team Training

The County of Riverside’s Emergency Management Department is providing free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training from August 19-21, 2022, at Winchester Park. The CERT program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for hazards and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. You will receive a certificate upon completion of the 20-hour training. For additional information and to register, visit http://tiny.cc/WINCERT.

Unlimited Free RTA Rides for Returning College Students

Summer break may be ending but that doesn’t mean college students won’t continue to ride for free. As school resumes, students at Cal Baptist University, La Sierra University, Moreno Valley College, Mt. San Jacinto College, Norco College, Riverside City College, and UC Riverside will get unlimited rides on RTA buses. Students simply use a mobile ticketing app on their phones to ride anywhere RTA buses go, anytime they operate. For questions on how to get your mobile pass, contact your school admissions office or RTA at (951) 565-5002.

Safe Family Justice Center Young PAL Program

The Safe Family Justice Center is hosting a Young PAL program on Tuesdays from 4:00 pm-5:30 pm at 28910 Pujol St, Temecula. This program is for youth ages 5-12 to learn about respect, teamwork, leadership, and community safety all while engaging in art and fun activities with their peers. The Safe Family Justice Centers' mentors include local law enforcement, youth advocates, and community helpers. For more information, call 951-587-3900 or email info@safefamiliesca.org.

Clear the Shelters Kicks off!

Riverside County Animal Services is offering free pet adoptions all month at shelters located in Blythe, Jurupa Valley, and Thousand Palms. Adoptions include spay/neuter, vaccinations, and microchip. The Western Riverside County Animal Shelter in Jurupa Valley is currently housing 479 dogs, 278 cats, 21 birds, and 17 livestock. The Coachella Valley Animal Campus is housing 140 dogs and 115 cats. Community Highlight: The Empowerment Village at Rancho Damacitas

The Third District Team attended a ribbon cutting for phase 1 of the Empowerment Village at Rancho Damacitas in partnership with Community Mission of Hope. The Empowerment Village is a place where single moms experiencing life challenges are offered opportunities and support to discover and set meaningful goals. Community Highlight: Michelle’s Place Cancer Resource Center

The Third District Team toured Michelle’s Place Cancer Resource Center in Temecula. Michelle’s Place empowers individuals and families impacted by cancer through education, support services, hope, and encouragement. Since 2001, they have provided over 150,000 free resources such as reiki, yoga, expressive art, and guided meditation. Michelle’s Place recently celebrated 20 years of service, and I am grateful for the commitment they have to our community and for supporting those who face such worrisome times. Supervisor Seeks Applicants for Vacancies on Third District Boards, Committees, and Commissions

Are you a dedicated individual interested in serving your community? Riverside County has numerous boards, committees, and commissions comprised of appointed members of the public. These appointees serve in an advisory capacity and make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors. Supervisor Washington is invariably seeking residents to represent the Third District who are willing to work hard to better their community. Riverside County COVID-19 Update

As of Tuesday, August 9, 2022, Riverside County’s COVID-19 case rate per 100,000 residents is 38.1. Just under 60 percent of residents have completed their primary series and 29.7 percent are boosted.

Help keep our community safe by getting your COVID-19 vaccines. To make an appointment, call 211 or visit www.ruhealth.org/covid-19-vaccine. You can also schedule an appointment at a community health center by calling 800-945-6171. If you are unable to leave your home for medical reasons, you can be vaccinated from the comfort of your home by calling 833-422-4255 or visiting myturn.ca.gov. If you recently tested positive for COVID-19 and are experiencing symptoms, you may be eligible for monoclonal antibody treatment. For more information, please call the RUHS Medical Center at 951-486-6520.
