Dear Third District Resident,

At the bottom of this email, you will find a list of resources and information. It has been updated as of Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020. To keep this email relatively brief, some of the older Third District resources are available here.

The Riverside County Third District Supervisor’s Office is working remotely to answer constituent questions about property taxes, COVID-19 restrictions and mandates, obtaining benefits and other County-related matters. Staff members are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please call 951-955-1030 or send an email to d3email@rivco.org, and someone will be in touch with you promptly. Just as a reminder, the weekly bulletin has transitioned to a biweekly bulletin. The next one will be released Wednesday, Nov. 25.

Tomorrow, we will be honoring and recognizing our nation’s veterans for their service. Although many in-person events have been canceled, I encourage you to take a moment and reach out by phone or video call to a veteran you know and love. Check in with them and see how they are doing. Let them know how much you appreciate their service.

As a veteran of the United States Navy, I want to wish all of my fellow former service members a safe and peaceful Veterans Day.

Riverside County COVID-19 Update

As of Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020, there have been 72,341 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Riverside County. There have been 1,352 deaths and 63,724 recoveries. For more detailed data on the County’s COVID-19 cases, visit www.rivcoph.org/coronavirus. For state updates, visit www.cdph.ca.gov, and for national updates, visit www.cdc.gov.

County of Riverside Election Results

The Riverside County Registrar of Voters is hard at work making sure they process every ballot that was cast this election.
Currently, they are still processing approximately 215,000 vote-by-mail ballots and 25,000 provisional ballots.
The next update is expected tonight at 6 p.m.

Third Round of Funding for the Riverside County Business Assistance Grant

The Riverside County Business Assistance grant application has reopened!
Businesses from every district are eligible to apply for funding, but funding is limited!
Businesses that received funding in Round 1 or Round 2 are not eligible to apply.
The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13.

Toy Drives for the 2020 Holiday Season

The Spark of Love Toy Drive, usually hosted by Southern California fire agencies, will be virtual this year. Visit the online gift registry here. You can also visit the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation website here and make a donation via credit card. Finally, you can text "SPARK" to 24365 to make a donation. All toys collected will be sanitized before they are distributed throughout Southern California.
The Marine Toys for Tots campaign is still happening this year. If you have questions about how to get involved or how to obtain toys for your child, please contact the North San Diego / Southwest Riverside County Toys for Tots campaign. You can visit their website here.
Veterans Supplemental Support Network (VSSN) is distributing toys, food and gift baskets to local military and veteran families. According to their website, military and veteran families can request holiday assistance by signing up here after Nov. 11. Sign up to sponsor a military or veteran family here.

Through It All: Families Make Perfect Matches through Adoption

Two Riverside County moms who finalized their children’s adoptions in 2020 say they hope their journeys will inspire others to follow a similar path.
November is National Adoption Awareness Month – a time to celebrate families who have united through adoption. Currently, about 150 children are waiting to be adopted in Riverside County.
Children of color, siblings, teenagers and kids with special needs often wait the longest to find a forever home. Some of them are featured in the county’s Heart Gallery at www.heartgalleryriverside.org.
Romney Snyder, a Third District resident, has three adopted sons. This year she finalized adoption of her youngest, Tyler, 16, who has Down Syndrome.
“He’s a beast of an athlete,” Snyder says of the bright-eyed teenage acrobat. “We say Tyler has 'Get-Down Syndrome' because he will dance to any music whether or not we can hear it.”
“To connect them was just amazing,” says Snyder’s social worker Vivian Dunipace. “Tyler was glowing to have someone interested in him, and the people who adopt these children are really special.”
Jolleen Newby finalized adoption of her 3-year-old daughter, Paisley, in August. She’s now mom to four little girls, all adopted in Riverside County. Newby said she’s thankful for the help she received from social workers along the way.
“They were so supportive, they answered all my questions and helped me with the transition,” Newby said. “There are so many children who need love and don’t have family. Adoption changes lives and it’s changed me as a person.”
