Welcome to the April edition of the North Lake Tahoe newsletter,
I’m excited to introduce myself to those I haven’t yet had the chance to meet. My name is Jared Deck, and I serve as Placer County’s Public Works Deputy Director here in Tahoe.
I’ve had the privilege of working with Placer for many years, most recently managing the environmental engineering division alongside the team I now supervise at Public Works. My current role focuses on projects that improve safety, enhance community connections and preserve the unique character of the places we serve. Here in Tahoe, that means balancing critical improvements with a deep respect for the environment and the history that makes this region so special.
This May, we’re especially proud to celebrate the completion of a project that embodies that balance. One of Tahoe City’s most cherished landmarks, Fanny Bridge, officially reopened on February 10 following a $10.6 million replacement effort delivered in partnership with the Central Federal Lands Division of the Federal Highway Administration, Caltrans, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and the Tahoe Transportation District.
The new single-span bridge mirrors the look of the original historic structure while removing piers from the Truckee River, improving water flow, fish passage and overall environmental conditions, all while enhancing safety and accessibility for residents and visitors.
Now it’s time to celebrate this milestone together.

On May 17, Placer County, the North Tahoe Community Alliance and the Tahoe City Downtown Association will host a ribbon cutting and community block party at Fanny Bridge in Tahoe City. The ribbon cutting will take place from 12 to 1 p.m., followed by a block party from 1 to 4:30 p.m. This free, family-friendly event will feature live music, local organization booths, food and drinks, a photo booth, raffle prizes and activities for all ages.
Fanny Bridge has a rich history and a great story to tell. It’s a critical transportation link for the West Shore and now can be utilized as a gathering place for our community. At the May event, we’ll have special giveaways along unique county memorabilia celebrating the Placer’s 175th anniversary. I hope you’ll join us for what promises to be a memorable day along the Truckee River. Learn more about the event here.
Before then, join us for an important community meeting.
At the end of the month, I invite you to participate virtually and discuss parking expansion in Kings Beach on Tuesday, April 28 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The meeting will focus on employee parking, which supports our local businesses. These discussions are a valuable opportunity to share feedback and help us refine a program that supports both local businesses and visitors.
I'm thankful to be a part of this great North Lake Tahoe community. I look forward to connecting with many of you this season, whether at the Fanny Bridge celebration or in our ongoing conversations about how we continue to improve transportation and infrastructure in this incredible place we call home.
- Jared
