To our North Lake communities,
Recent events in the Tahoe Truckee region have shaken our community. In North Lake Tahoe, there is no border when it comes to community. We are all one region.
In moments like these, we are reminded of both the fragility of life and the strength of community. I want to express profound gratitude to the many mutual aid partners and volunteers who have worked tirelessly around the clock to serve our community. Their efforts saved six lives in the aftermath of the avalanche, and they have continued working in challenging and adverse weather conditions to bring loved ones home.
At Placer County, we stand shoulder to shoulder with our partners and neighbors. We are especially grateful to the dedicated teams from the Nevada County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, Placer County Sheriff’s Office, Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Washoe County Search and Rescue, Truckee Fire Protection District, Care Flight Truckee, California Office of Emergency Services, the Tahoe National Forest, the Tahoe Donner’s Alder Creek Adventure Center and Boreal Mountain Ski Resort.
Following such events, our colleagues have put together resources and extra support is available. This includes coordinating with Tahoe Truckee COAD to help elevate a centralized webpage of available mental health and support resources, including our 24/7 mental health hotline and the Tahoe Truckee Mobile Crisis Team, as well as information on upcoming community support events.
If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out to local mental health providers, community organizations or trusted support networks.
We are one community. And together, we will move forward with care, strength and deep respect for those we have lost.

The Fanny Bridge Community Revitalization Project has been recognized as a 2026 winner of California’s Outstanding Local Streets and Roads Project Awards. Fanny Bridge, which recently opened to the public, won under the Bridges category for best Efficient and Sustainable Bridge Maintenance, Construction and Reconstruction Projects.
The award was co-presented by the California State Association of Counties, League of California Cities and County Engineers Association of California. READ MORE

Placer County is working with these partners to plan an official summer ceremony and block party for the bridge May 17. The event is a chance for residents to celebrate both the bridge’s history and its future. Save the date and stay tuned for further details.
Earlier this month, our Board of Supervisors approved $5,451,815 million of transient occupancy tax funding for a total of seven projects in North Lake Tahoe. The approved projects fall into four categories, including facilities, trails, transportation and workforce housing. READ MORE
Applications are now open for the next round of funding for Placer County's Launchpad workforce housing program in North Lake Tahoe!
This notice of funding availability brings the total amount to $3,275,000 dedicated to workforce housing projects. Applications can be submitted by March 18. LEARN MORE
If we want vibrant, walkable town centers that serve both residents and visitors, modernization of existing development is critical. Join us at the North Tahoe High School Cafeteria (2945 Polaris Road, Tahoe City) on Thursday, April 2 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. to learn more about the proposed affordable housing development at 3205 North Lake Boulevard, known as Dollar Creek Crossing.
Representatives from Placer County, the project developer, and other community organizations will be there to talk about the history of the site, planning permit process, proposed site plan, and more. The event will be drop-in, open-house style, with stations on different topics to facilitate one-on-one and small group conversations.
Placer County invites Registered Professional Foresters to explore two free online tools —
the California Working Forest Planner and the California Forest Industry Directory —
designed to connect forestry professionals with private landowners seeking to reduce wildfire risk on their property and improve woody biomass utilization.
The guides landowners through basic questions about property
information, goals and treatment needs. WFP also identifies local RPFs who may be a good fit for
project support. is a searchable, map‑based directory of
forestry contractors, mills, haulers and other professionals. Similar to a forestry‑focused version
of Google Maps, the FID helps landowners and practitioners quickly find qualified providers and
local biomass markets.
Together, WFP and FID form the Digital Marketplace, a platform developed for the State’s
California Forest Residual Aggregation Market Enhancement project by the Office of
Land Use and Climate Innovation and the Watershed Research and Training Center.

Local businesses across the Tahoe-Truckee region are stepping up to give teens more ways to spend time together, have fun and make healthy choices close to home.
Through the new Chill Pass Tahoe-Truckee program, participating businesses and recreation venues offer exclusive discounts to Tahoe Truckee Unified School District students, creating more affordable, substance-free activities for teens during their free time. Placer County Public Health helped bring partners together and support the launch of the program. LEARN MORE
