Celebrating Community and Giving This Holiday Season

As we enter the holiday season, I hope you’re able to enjoy time with loved ones and take in the special sense of community that makes District 5 such a wonderful place to call home.

December is also an important reminder of the value of supporting our local businesses, whether you’re picking up a gift, grabbing a warm meal, or browsing one of our many small shops. Shopping locally has a powerful impact: studies show that a significantly larger share of every dollar spent at a local business stays in the community compared to big-box or online retailers, helping support local jobs, services, and the character of our mountain and foothill towns. You can explore and share your favorite small businesses through Placer County’s Shop Placer campaign

This month also brings Giving Tuesday and the broader season of giving, a time when even small acts of generosity can make a big difference. Our local nonprofits work tirelessly year-round, supporting families, caring for seniors, protecting our natural spaces, supporting youth, and so much more. If you’re looking for ways to give back, consider supporting causes that matter most to you, whether through a donation, volunteering your time, or simply spreading the word.

If you’re looking for inspiration on where to give, consider the local organizations that make a difference every day - food banks, youth programs, arts and culture groups, environmental nonprofits, animal shelters, and the many volunteer-driven organizations throughout District 5.

Wishing you all a joyful holiday season filled with gratitude, community, and connection.

In service,
Cindy Gustafson
Placer County Supervisor, District 5

BOARD TO CONSIDER APPEALS FOR HOPE WAY PROJECT

HOPE

The Placer County Board of Supervisors will review three appeals related to the proposed Hope Way Apartments during its regular meeting on Dec. 16 at 9 a.m. at the Placer County Health and Human Services Building in Auburn. The appeals challenge the Planning Commission’s Oct. 16 decision on the 240-unit affordable housing proposal by USA Properties Fund. The commission previously denied the project’s design review agreement while approving most of the requested development waivers. All appeal documents and project details are available on the project’s webpage, with the full board agenda to be posted at least 72 hours before the meeting. LEARN MORE
