North Lake Tahoe Construction Project Updates 

Drainage and Electrical Work Continues Ahead of State Route 28 Pavement Project 

Caltrans is advising motorists of various lane closures due to drainage and electrical work along State Route 28 (SR 28) in Placer County, in preparation for the $31.7 million Caltrans pavement project.

Work is scheduled at the following locations and times:

  • Along eastbound and westbound SR 28 Sunday, July 13 through Thursday, July 17 from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. between Anderson Road and Deer Street.
  • Along eastbound and westbound SR 28 Monday, July 14 at 7 a.m. until Friday, July 18 at 3 p.m. between Mackinaw Road and Jackpine Street.

Schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment or material availability, or other unexpected events.


Draft Environmental Document for State Route 267 Pavement Project

Public Meeting Scheduled in Truckee for Thursday, July 17

Caltrans is scheduled to release the Draft Environmental Document for a proposed $44 million pavement project on State Route 267 (SR 267) from the Nevada/Placer County line to Dolly Varden Avenue in Kings Beach.

This project proposes to rehabilitate nearly 10 miles of pavement, repair drainage systems, upgrade guardrail and signage, and extend the southbound truck-climbing lane.

Caltrans will release the Draft Environmental Document (DED), referred to as an Initial Study with Negative Declaration, for the project on Friday. The department welcomes all feedback from the public, partner agencies and stakeholders on the DED during the project’s review period July 11 – August 10.

Caltrans has also scheduled a public meeting for the project. Attendees can view displays to see the latest updates about the project, ask questions to Caltrans staff and provide input to the project team. The meeting will be held Thursday, July 17 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the California Highway Patrol Truckee Office located at 10475 Pioneer Trail, Truckee, CA 96161.

The DED is available for viewing online at Placer County | Caltrans and in person at the 

following locations:

  • Truckee Library, 10031 Levon Avenue, Truckee, CA 96161 
  • Kings Beach Library, 301 Secline Street, Kings Beach, CA 96143

It is also available for review and copying weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Caltrans District 3 Office of Environmental Management, 703 B Street, Marysville, CA 95901.

Comments may be submitted via email to: PLA.267.CAPM@dot.ca.gov. All comments must be received by 5 p.m. Sunday, August 10. Caltrans anticipates construction to begin in fall 2027 with completion by fall 2029, contingent on the weather and availability of materials and/or equipment.
