At the May 11 Board of Supervisors meeting the Board approved a $79,789,777 contract for the design and construction of the Placer County Health and Human Service Center to be built at the Placer County Government Center in North Auburn. Learn more...

While the County will still provide services at the 1000 Sunset Boulevard facility in Rocklin, as well as in the Tahoe area, the new, long-overdue North Auburn facility will consolidate existing Health and Human Services (HHS) staff in a single location.

Currently, many HHS staff members are housed at the Government Center in North Auburn in the inadequate World War II barracks and the old state mental hospital wings, as well as several leased locations throughout the county.

The design for the Health and Human Service Center will provide a welcoming one-stop service center for clients in the mid-County area and will bring the six HHS divisions serving the area together under one roof, allowing for more interdivision collaboration and interaction. The selected design is a 142,000 square-foot two-story steel framed building with a glass and a pre-cast panel exterior. It will include enough carport-mounted photovoltaic panels to allow the building to be the County’s first Zero Net Energy facility, generating as much electricity as it consumes over the course of a year. The project will also feature a river-themed landscape entry, a play area for children, and an outdoor patio for visitors and employees. The building interiors will include a central lobby with a visitor management system, large training, and meeting spaces available for countywide use, naturally daylighted office space, and a common main circulation area to encourage employee collaboration.

The new facility is projected to break ground in early 2022 and to be completed in Fall 2023.

Thank you to all of our dedicated Health and Human Services leaders and their amazing staff members who provide essential services to Placer County residents. Your commitment to your work provides countless benefits to members of our community and we greatly appreciate all you do.

Warm Regards,

Supervisor Jim Holmes
