MVFD Fire Chief Announces Retirement |

City of Mountain View Fire Department Fire Chief Juan F. Diaz recently announced his intentions to retire at the end of this year after a 40-year career in the fire services, including nearly 12 years with the City of Mountain View Fire Department. Chief Diaz has served as fire chief since 2015. His official retirement date is set for Dec. 30, 2025.
City Manager Kimbra McCarthy announced the appointment of Deputy Fire Chief Brian Jones as fire chief of the City of Mountain View Fire Department. With 32 years of experience in the fire service, Jones will serve as Mountain View’s 20th fire chief. Jones will begin his new position on Dec. 31, 2025.

This family-friendly fall festival invites ghosts, goblins, and ghouls of all ages to join the fun. Don your best costumes and enjoy a jam-packed day of exciting activities, including a Treat Trail, spooky games, mesmerizing live performances, a towering stilt walker, the enchanting Lil Ghouls Corral, and a bounce-worthy inflatable zone. Brave souls can enter the Creepy Crawly Ooey Gooey Zone, while thrill-seekers pedal into more fun with the Bike Circus.

Free Repair Café at Mountain View Senior Center |

Do you have items that you like but no longer work? Don’t toss them, repair them! Volunteers will help you assess and fix your things for free instead of throwing them away.
Sunday, Oct. 26 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Mountain View Senior Center, 266 Escuela Ave.
Repair Café Silicon Valley is a volunteer-run, community service dedicated to encouraging the repair and reuse of goods, rather than sending them to the landfill.
At Repair Café events, volunteers will guide you to tackle the repair yourself or fix it while you watch and learn. Chances are you will leave with a once-again useful item and some knowledge of how to repair things on your own.

Join a celebration of memories and a ritual that “encourages remembering over forgetting” at the City of Mountain View's annual Día de Muertos.

Learn about and enjoy the festivities and ofrendas decorated with Cempasúchitl flowers, or marigolds, papel picado, sugar skulls, and a myriad of colors created and inspired by community members.

Book Lovers Invited to Upcoming Book Sale |

The Friends of the Mountain View Library will hold its next Book Sale the first weekend of November. Come and find great bargains on gently used books for adults and youth, DVDs, CDs and more. Funds raised will support Library programs.

The Mountain View Public Library recently became a Local Program Partner with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The Imagination Library is a worldwide program that mails free books to children ages 0-5 to support literacy and instill a love of reading.
All children under the age of five living in Santa Clara County are invited to be part of the free program. Families may register children online at SCCLD.org/ImaginationLibrary.

Protect your privacy and reduce waste by securely recycling confidential papers such as bank statements, pay stubs, cancelled checks, and credit offers. This event is for Mountain View and Sunnyvale residents only and proof of residency is required.

Please note the following:
- The line cuts off at 3:00 p.m. sharp. Avoid peak wait times by visiting between 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. if possible.
- Limit of five bags or banker boxes per household. Small paperclips, staples, spiral notebooks, and rubber-bands are acceptable.
- Remove paper from heavy binders or binder clips to prevent damage to the shredding equipment.
