Library Launches New Teen Programs |
|
The Mountain View Public Library will launch three initiatives aimed at teens this spring. These new programs, along with the Library’s regular teen programming, seek to provide young people with meaningful ways to contribute to their community, develop new skills and share their perspectives.
-
Teen Summer Volunteer Program. Participants will help with a children’s STEAM program that runs weekly through the summer.
-
Amplify: Teen Voices. Librarians will work with teens individually to develop their interests or passions into a public library program or presentation, allowing them to experience the program planning process with support to bring their ideas to an audience.
-
Library Vibe Check. The Library will invite a group of teens to share feedback through creative activities to learn more about what teens want from the Library, what keeps them engaged, and how the Library can help.
These new programs are part of the Library’s ongoing effort to be a dynamic community resource for young adults as they explore their interests and build connections.

VTA Offers Uber Transit Vouchers During Strike |
|
Transit riders can get help paying for Uber rides temporarily, as the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) strike continues into its third week.
The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), in an effort to ease the loss of service for tens of thousands of riders, is offering Uber vouchers of up to $5 for each ride with a maximum of two (2) rides per day. Rides must begin and end at a VTA bus or light rail stop, and must be ordered on Uber’s mobile app.
The ride share company has geo-coded stops on VTA’s transit system to know when a ride is being hailed to and from a transit stop. Riders will pay the first $2.50 of any ride, after which a $5 voucher will take effect, and any additional costs after the $5 voucher will also be paid by the customer.
The vouchers will be available for UberX and Uber Share rides only.
VTA has launched this temporary pilot program in an effort to help VTA passengers navigate trips during the strike period. The parameters of the program may be adapted as it proceeds.
More information on how to use this service can be found on VTA’s website.
In addition, there are two free public shuttle services in Mountain View to help get you around. These services include:
-
Mountain View Community Service, which operates from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. on weekends and holidays in a two-way loop between Downtown, Mountain View Transit Center, Community Center, San Antonio, Middlefield Road, Sylvan, El Camino Hospital and Castro Street; and
-
MVgo, which runs on weekdays during peak commute hours between Mountain View Transit Center and employment locations in North Bayshore, East Whisman and San Antonio areas.
