City of Mountain View Debuts New Website |
|
The City of Mountain View has launched the new MountainView.gov, which debuted on Wednesday, May 17. The new MountainView.gov aims to enhance the City’s ability to connect and share information with the community.
Over the next several weeks, City staff will fix issues, complete content updates and enhance functionality on the new website.
In the meantime, take note of the following:
-
Use the City's search engine. It will work fully within a few days after launch and continue to improve over time. External search engines like Google, Bing and DuckDuckGo take several weeks to reindex our website. That means you may see "Page Not Found" errors in the meantime.
-
Update your bookmarks. While the City's homepage (MountainView.gov) is still the same, links for all the other webpages have changed.
-
Sign up to receive City news and information via email. The City's new email notification system now allows you to subscribe to City news and information - such as news releases from the City, Fire Department and Police Department, updates, newsletters, event announcements, and public meeting details - all in one location and by topic. Subscribe now.
-
Report broken links. Staff is working quickly to update links. This will take a few days to complete. If you find any broken links that were missed, report them by using the Website Feedback form or the "Feedback" link found on every page.
Your patience is appreciated during this transition and we hope you enjoy the new site.

Shorebird Lane Home to Egret and Heron Rookery |
|
Along Shorebird Way in the Shoreline Regional Park Community of Mountain View is an egret and heron rookery, a unique wildlife area in an otherwise highly developed and urbanized setting. London planetrees line both sides of Shorebird Way and support nests of black-crowned night herons, snowy egrets and great egrets each year. This rookery is regionally significant as it is one of the largest egret colonies in the South Bay.
In 2022, the rookery contained 204 active nests—including 80 black-crowned night heron, 81 great egret and 43 snowy egret nests. Every year, City staff monitor and close the street to vehicular traffic as well as implement different landscaping practices to minimize disturbance of the rookery.
As with all wildlife, please avoid disturbing or trying to engage the nesting birds to preserve this wonderful feature of the Shoreline Community.
More information on the rookery and other wildlife in the Shoreline Community can be found on the Shoreline at Mountain View webpage.

City Awarded Grants from Silicon Valley Clean Energy Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) awarded grants to 10 organizations, including the City of Mountain View, to help communities demonstrate the feasibility of decarbonization through building electrification. The City was awarded a Demonstration Grant and an Engagement Grant.
The Demonstration Grant is designed to help local agencies install electric building technologies that the public can see and experience. The City was awarded $497,000 from SVCE to electrify significant portions of the Mountain View’s Senior Center, converting the water heaters and kitchen to all-electric systems.
For the Engagement Grant, the City was awarded $70,000 to engage local community organizations and residents in developing electrification outreach and engagement strategies.
Decarbonization Planning with Stanford University Kicks Off The City’s Sustainability Division is partnering with Stanford University’s Public Policy Program on decarbonization planning. Four students will develop decarbonization strategies for their senior practicum project to help the City achieve its carbon neutrality goal.
The recommendations will be based on the City’s unique opportunities, challenges and feedback from partner organizations such as SVCE and the Building Decarbonization Coalition.
