Re-evaluation of the Approved Food Service Packaging List
SB 1335 requires that CalRecycle re-evaluate the food service packaging items included on the List of Approved Food Service Packaging (List) at least once every five years to determine whether the items continue to meet applicable SB 1335 food service packaging criteria. CalRecycle completed its first re-evaluation of the List in October 2025, and the results are summarized in this email.

The List was first published in March 2022 and currently includes 330 compostable and recyclable plates, bowls, trays, clamshells, and other food service packaging items. All products on the List meet the requirements established by the SB 1335 regulations and are approved for use by state food service facilities to dispense prepared food. The List is updated as new food service packaging applications are reviewed and approved. For more information regarding the SB 1335 regulatory requirements, see Title 14, Article 8 of the California Code of Regulations.
