The Drug Takeback Solutions Foundation Submits Proposed Changes to its Stewardship Plan for Home-Generated Sharps Waste
On June 2, 2025, The Drug Takeback Solutions Foundation notified CalRecycle of proposed changes to its stewardship plan for home-generated sharps waste regarding local agency requests, which involve reimbursement for the costs of transportation and disposal, or removal of, home-generated sharps waste from a household hazardous waste facility. CalRecycle is reviewing the proposal as a significant change, pursuant
to Public Resources Code section 42032(e) and Title 14 of the California Code of
Regulations section 18973.1(i).
The proposed changes are now posted to the Home-Generated Sharps Waste
Stewardship Plans webpage and linked in the public notice below.

CalRecycle is voluntarily holding a comment period to allow for input from interested parties and requests that public comments be submitted to pharmasharps@calrecycle.ca.gov by June 23, 2025.
