MILITARY & VETERANS AFFAIRS CELEBRATES VETERANS DAY WITH SCREENING OF CAUSEWAY ON BATTLESHIP IOWA
LA County Department of Military & Veterans Affairs Partners with A24 and Apple Films to Present a Screening of a New Film Depicting an LGBTQ Soldier Recovering from TBI & PTSD.
LOS ANGELES, CA – On Friday, November 11th, the Los Angeles County Department of Military & Veterans Affairs (MVA) will sponsor a screening of Causeway, a film depicting the life of a soldier played by Jennifer Lawrence who suffers from a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress (PTS) after surviving an explosion in Afghanistan.
Join us this Veterans Day, November 11, 2022, at 6 PM on the Battleship USS IOWA, followed by a panel of experts to discuss issues raised in the film.

The Los Angeles County Department of Military & Veterans Affairs, the Veteran Peer Access Network, A24 and Apple Films present a screening of the new film "Causeway" starring Jennifer Lawrence as a soldier returning from Afghanistan with TBI and PTSD. The film is a quiet portrait of how relationships foster recovery.

WHY:

There have been 414,000 Wounded Warriors who suffer from Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) of all severities through 2019 (Depart of Defense).
22% of all casualties from the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan resulted from brain injuries.
About 20% of Veterans who served in Iraq or Afghanistan suffer the effects of PTSD in a given year.
A recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association Psychiatry found that 20% of veterans with TBI reported suicidal thoughts.
