The City of Galt is excited to offer pre-approved Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) plans for use by City of Galt homeowners. These ready-to-use plans help speed up the permit process, making it quicker and more affordable to add an ADU to your property.
Pre-Approved ADU Plans The City offers a selection of pre-approved ADU construction plans that have been carefully reviewed and approved. By utilizing these plans, applicants only need to submit a detailed site plan specific to their property, simplifying the application process.

An article was recently published indicating that the City of Galt remains under a Stage 2 Water Alert. We want to clarify that the City of Galt is not currently under a Stage 2 Water Alert, and no watering restrictions are in place at this time.
That said, we’ve heard questions from residents about how new housing developments may affect our local water supply. Here’s what you should know:
The City of Galt obtains all of its water from four active groundwater wells (and one standby well), which draw water from a natural underground source known as the Cosumnes Subbasin. We don’t use surface water (such as rivers or lakes), and we also don’t use recycled water.
We share this groundwater source with six other local agencies. Together, we work under the Cosumnes Groundwater Authority (CGA) to carefully manage the health of the subbasin, ensuring that we don’t use more water than nature can replenish over time. This is required under a state law passed in 2014 to protect California’s groundwater for future generations.
Galt plays a responsible role in this effort. In fact, our City uses a very small amount of water compared to others — only about 4% of all the water drawn from the Cosumnes Subbasin. And we’re using less than we used to: since 2013, we’ve cut our water use by about 25%, thanks to conservation efforts that encourage smart water use.
We’re committed to doing our part to ensure a sustainable water future for our community — even as we grow.
