A ceremonial groundbreaking event took place on July 22 for Phase 1 of Campus at Bayside, a 473,250 SF industrial project at 47100 Lakeview Blvd. This is a major milestone for Fremont’s Bayside Technology Park and a strong reflection of the City’s continued role as a manufacturing and industrial powerhouse. From reshoring semiconductor manufacturing, testing EV batteries, to the rapid growth of AI technology, industrial demand continues to position Fremont as where companies go to successfully scale their operations. At full lease-up, the project anticipates the creation of over 1,500 jobs in various manufacturing and R&D roles. Site work is already well underway, and we look forward to sharing more updates in the future.
On August 5, life science industry leaders and workforce partners gathered at the Fremont Downtown Event Center to discuss the future of Bay Area life science manufacturing, hosted by Biocom California and the City of Fremont. Biocom Bay Area Executive Director Michelle Nemits presented on the 2025 Life Science Economic Impact Report, followed by an insightful industry panel with speakers from Bionova Scientific, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Allogene Therapeutics, and moderated by Dr. Gregory Theyel of the Biomedical Manufacturing Network. The event concluded with Ohlone College’s Dean of STEM, Dr. Lori Silverman, and Biocom Institute Program Manager, Sylwia Palczewska, underscoring the importance of aligning industry needs with classroom topics to develop a workforce ready to hit the ground running.
The City of Fremont recently took part in the Alameda County PPA Industrial Guidelines process, a regional effort led by MTC and East Bay EDA to develop design standards that preserve and modernize industrial land across the county. The guidelines, focused on Priority Production Areas (PPAs), aim to support job-generating industries through flexible zoning, improved design, and streamlined approvals. Fremont shared recent efforts to convert underutilized spaces into Class A industrial facilities and emphasized the need for adaptable standards to attract high-value users. This initiative is still being finalized, and Fremont will retain local autonomy to review, refine, and adopt the final guidelines in a way that aligns with the City’s economic goals and land use priorities
In this insightful episode, NAIOP Silicon Valley sits down with Donovan Lazaro, Economic Development Director to explore Fremont’s strategic approach to economic development, planning, and tenant demand. Lazaro offers valuable insights into how the City of Fremont attracts businesses, manages growth, and fosters a robust real estate environment. Listen to the podcast.
The City of Fremont is committed to supporting safe and legal mobile vending by helping vendors comply with local and state regulations, including the City’s requirement for permits. Mobile vendors include food trucks, ice cream trucks, and sidewalk sellers.
State laws like SB 946 and SB 972 limit how cities regulate vending, focusing on health, safety, and accessibility. While these laws support entrepreneurship, they have also led to a rise in unpermitted vendors, creating issues such as food safety concerns, sidewalk obstructions, and improper waste disposal.
To address these challenges, the City is educating vendors about permit requirements, issuing warnings and citations for violations, and impounding unpermitted or unsafe food and equipment when there is a threat to public health or safety, as allowed under the law.
Vendors can find more information on the City’s Vendor/Solicitor webpage.
