Carjacking and Shooting at Martin Tudor Park

Fontana, CA – On October 8, 2020

At approximately 2:49 am Fontana Police Department received a report of a shooting and carjacking at Martin Tudor Jurupa Hills Regional Park (11925 Sierra). Officers arrived and located a 23-year-old male from Riverside who was suffering from gunshots to his Arm and abdomen. Officers on-scene provided medical aid to the victim until paramedics arrived. The victim was transported to an area hospital and is listed in critical condition.

Prior to the shooting the victim had been sitting in his vehicle in the parking lot and had fallen asleep. He was awoken by three male suspects who forced him out of his vehicle at gunpoint.  At least one of the suspects fired at the victim and fled in the victim’s 2012 Ford Edge.

Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the victim’s vehicle. The vehicle was entered as a stolen vehicle and the information was shared with surrounding agencies.  At approximately 5:00 am, Chino Police Officers responded to a report of an armed carjacking in in the City of Chino.  The suspects involved in the Chino carjacking arrived at the location in the vehicle taken during the first carjacking and shooting in Fontana. 

 

Chino Police Department provided the following statement in a news release, “CHINO, CA –

On October 8, 2020 at 5:00 am, Chino Police Officers responded to a report of an armed carjacking in the area of 14000 Oaks Avenue.  The first responding officer located three suspects in the area.  One of the suspects fired on the officer, striking the officer’s vehicle.  The officer was not injured.  Officers did not fire on the suspects.

The suspects fled on foot.  Officers established a perimeter and took one suspect into custody and found a second suspect suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  The third suspect is still outstanding.

The suspect with the self-inflicted gunshot wound was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. 

The third and final suspect was located and taken into custody without incident.  Officers are clearing the immediate area and local residents are free to leave the neighborhood.
