West Nile Virus Detected in Claremont
The San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District has confirmed Claremont’s first detection of West Nile Virus this year, reported on September 1. The sample was collected from a mosquito trap located in the north Claremont area.
West Nile Virus can spread to people and animals through the bite of an infected mosquito. To help protect yourself and your neighbors:
- Tip and toss standing water around your home.
- Use mosquito repellent when spending time outdoors.
A few simple steps can help reduce mosquito breeding and prevent bites. Stay safe and mosquito-aware!

City of Claremont Flock Camera Statement
The City of Claremont has Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) cameras at set locations throughout the city to process license plates for crimes like stolen vehicles. The City has six Flock cameras that were installed by the City in 2025 and 36 additional cameras made by Motorola that were installed in 2011.
Before deploying the cameras in 2011, the City adopted a policy that guides the use of the cameras, storage of the information, access to the data, and compliance with California State Law SB54 that prohibits the use of the data for Federal Immigration Enforcement, personal or commercial use.
Additionally, the City only shares information with California agencies, no federal or other state agencies. You can see the searches that have been conducted in the last 30 days using the Claremont Flock Transparency page, which is available on the City website via the link below.

Proposed Sewer and Sanitation Rate Changes
The Claremont City Council is considering adjustments to the City’s sewer and sanitation rates following a comprehensive financial study that found the cost of providing these essential services has increased significantly over the past five years. The proposed adjustments would help ensure the sewer and sanitation funds remain financially sustainable while continuing to provide reliable service and maintain critical infrastructure.
A Public Hearing will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 6:30pm, during the City Council’s regular meeting. At the hearing, the City Council will consider adopting the proposed rates.
Property owners will have an opportunity to review the proposed changes and submit written protests before or during the Public Hearing.

Pedley Spreading Grounds Enhancement Project
The City of Pomona is working on an enhancement project that will capture, treat, and infiltrate urban runoff to improve local water quality, increase water supply, and protect public health.
Construction is underway on stormwater infrastructure owned by the City of Pomona, located in Claremont next to Chaparral Elementary School and Chaparral Park. City staff will continue to monitor this phase of the project to help ensure the protection of trees adjacent to the work area.
For any questions or to report construction-related issues, please contact PSGPonds@pomonaca.gov.
Call for Trees - 2027 Reforestation Program
The Community Services Department will begin planning for the City’s 2027 Reforestation Program this month. Sites where a tree has been removed within the past year will automatically be included in the upcoming program.
Residents who are interested in a new street tree but have not had a tree removed within the past year may email trees@claremontca.gov to have their address added to the 2027 Reforestation Program list. When submitting a request, please include your first and second species choices from the Designated Tree List below to help expedite the process.
Staff will evaluate each proposed planting site to determine whether it is suitable for a new tree. All sites must be evaluated and approved by an arborist prior to planting.
New trees will be planted between November 2026 and April 2027, taking advantage of cooler weather and winter precipitation to help support tree establishment.
For more information, contact the Community Services Department at (909) 399-5431 or trees@claremontca.gov.
