Update on City Interdepartmental Team
A City Interdepartmental Team (CIT) was established to proactively address criminal and nuisance activity at hotels and motels, particularly at freeway motels. The latest CIT Quarterly Report, which reports on activity between April and June 2025, is now available on the City’s website. The next report will be available in October and will report on activity between July and September 2025.
CERT Training
Claremont’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the Claremont Police Department are offering CERT training this fall. Enrollment is now open for the in-person training course, which begins on September 2. The CERT program was developed to provide basic training in safety and life-saving skills for the general public. Training will include search and rescue, triage and emergency first aid, fire suppression, and radio communication skills to coordinate between Claremont PD and the Fire Department.
National Night Out - August 5
Join us on Tuesday, August 5, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm for National Night Out at Joāt Park, hosted by the Claremont Police Department! In collaboration with other community groups, CPD will have several exhibits on display, games, and prizes for kids! A public safety “Meet and Greet” will be held from 6pm to 6:30pm for individuals with special needs and their families. Bring your appetites, as this year’s event will feature several food trucks, including Fuego Me Up, Monkey’s Munchies Truck, and The Deli Doctor.
This year, the Police Department will be accepting donations of school supplies for the Children’s Advocacy Center. Donations can be dropped off in advance at the Claremont Police Department or at the “Stuff a Police Car” at the event. The Children’s Advocacy Center’s mission is to provide children affected by violence with services of support, forensic interviews, resources, and hope.
We will cap off the evening by showing “Moana 2" beginning at dusk. Come and join in on the fun with your community and the Police Department!
Descanso Walk Affordable Housing Units Lottery
The Olson Company is opening up its lottery for four affordable housing units at the new Descanso Walk townhomes on Foothill Boulevard at Towne Avenue. The lottery will be open to qualified Claremont residents or individuals working in Claremont.
Affordable Housing Unit Information
Descanso Walk will offer a special affordable homeownership opportunity for eligible low-income households to own a townhome at below market rate pricing under the City of Claremont’s Inclusionary Housing Program.
There will be four affordable townhomes available for purchase. The affordable homes are the Eucalyptus floorplan (plan 1A) and offer approximately 1,272 square feet of living space, with 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, and 2 car tandem garages. The affordable sales price for the low-income townhomes is $169,200. The affordable sales price is subject to change.
Registration for the lottery will be open from July 18, 2025, through August 1, 2025, and the move-in dates will range from Fall of this year to Summer of 2026 depending on the unit. Eligible homebuyers who register for affordable homes between July 18, 2025 and August 1, 2025, will be entered into a housing lottery for the opportunity to participate in the program by a randomized selection process.
La Puerta Site Plan & Architectural Design - APC Review
On July 9, 2025, Trumark Homes informed Community Development staff that the entitled La Puerta Specific Plan property had been sold to Taylor Morrison Homes. The Specific Plan, approved by the City Council on November 12, 2024, establishes a framework for residential development of the 9.58-acre site. Taylor Morrison Homes independently pursued the acquisition, and the sale was not initiated by Trumark. Taylor Morrison plans to move forward with the project under the same plans and conditions of approval previously granted to Trumark Homes.
The final step before construction can begin is site plan and architectural design review, which is scheduled to be considered by the Architectural and Preservation Commission at its next regular meeting on July 23, 2025 at 7pm.

Scripps College Building Project - APC Review
Scripps College is proposing an adaptive reuse and façade upgrade of the existing two-story CGU Art building at 251 E. 10th Street to repurpose it for the Psychology Department. Scripps College is also proposing to construct a new three-story building for its Dance Department to the rear of the existing building. The two buildings have been designed to appear cohesively as one building with the total square footage of 67,001. The project site is located along the west side of North Columbia Avenue, between 10th and 11th Streets, next to the Garrison Theatre. The Architectural and Preservation Committee will review the design plans on July 23 at 7pm.
Household Hazardous Waste Event - July 19
This Saturday, July 19 from 9am to 3pm, the Sanitation Districts and Los Angeles County Public Works are hosting a FREE Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Waste collection event at:

This event is FREE and open to ALL LA County residents to safely dispose of items like:

Applications Now Available
The City of Claremont is now accepting grant applications for the 2026 calendar year Community Based Organization (CBO) Program. The CBO Program's mission is to partner with non-profit service providers in order to strengthen the social, economic, and family infrastructure in the Claremont community. Within the overall grant program, there are two funding programs, General Services and Homeless Services/Critical Need, with separate funding sources. Funding will be awarded to programs/projects that best address the community’s needs and priorities.
Grant requests must be submitted online via the City application form by no later than 5pm on Friday, August 15, 2025. Applications are now available online.

SUMMER FUN - CONCERTS & MOVIES!
Monday Night Concerts
Monday Night Concerts continue through August 25 at Memorial Park. Each Monday evening at 7pm, a different genre of music will play to provide a well-rounded summer concert series. The Kiwanis Club of Claremont will be offering a variety of concessions starting at 6pm. All proceeds will go directly to benefit the concert series. For more information, visit the link below.

Movies in the Park return with a five-movie series that will reach each of the five Claremont districts by playing a movie in a different park each night.
