City & CWC Open Space Land Acquisition
Claremont Wildlands Conservancy & City of Claremont Secure 80 Acres of Hillside Open Space
The Claremont Wildlands Conservancy (CWC), in partnership with the City of Claremont, has successfully acquired and protected 80 acres of hillside open space, preserving vital natural habitat and expanding the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park. This landmark achievement prevents development in a Cal Fire-designated "Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone" and enhances regional ecological connectivity for both wildlife and public recreation.
The newly protected Seaver and Jaffe parcels, located above the northwest corner of Claraboya along the western edge of Johnson’s Pasture, now join over 2,500 acres of existing wilderness protected within Claremont’s city limits.
The $3.8 million acquisition was made possible through the combined efforts and financial contributions of local and regional partners.

Statement on ICE Operations
The Claremont Police Department would like to address an important issue affecting our country, state, and community. Recently, many community members have asked if our department is involved in immigration enforcement. In January, the CPD issued a statement that we have included below.
The Claremont Police Department’s mission is to keep our community safe and uphold the law. Under California Senate Bill 54, there are clear rules about how local law enforcement agencies work with federal immigration authorities. This law limits cooperation with ICE, and our department strictly follows these guidelines.
We want to acknowledge that immigration can be a sensitive and emotional topic with many different viewpoints. As law enforcement professionals, our role is to stay neutral and focus on enforcing the law fairly and respectfully.

Coyote Safety Tips
Coyotes generally avoid humans; however, the presence of food, water, and shelter may attract coyotes.
Below are important tips to avoid attracting coyotes to your neighborhood:
- Never deliberately feed coyotes. It is illegal and often leads to aggressive behavior.
- Avoid feeding feral cats. If you must feed pets outside, feed them only once per day and remove the food bowl immediately after the meal.
- Secure trash and compost bins.
- Remove or clean up around bird feeders.
- Remove fallen fruit on the ground – coyotes are omnivores.
- Prune shrubs 1-3 feet from the ground to prevent denning.
- Enclose crawl space under homes and decks.
Tips for protecting pets:
- Do not leave pets outside unattended, particularly small dogs and cats.
- Keep dogs on a short leash when walking.
- Invest in a dog run or “catio” that is protected on all sides.
- Ensure cats have an escape route such a tree or “cat post,” allowing them to climb out of reach.
