Belmont Creek Restoration Earns Top Honors
The City of Belmont had a standout night at the American Public Works Association Silicon Valley Awards last Friday, with our Twin Pines Belmont Creek Restoration Project named Project of the Year — recognized for its collaborative approach to improving our community and protecting the watershed for generations to come.
Three additional awards rounded out the evening: Project Manager of the Year to Belmont's Daniel Matthews, for his leadership on this complex project; Contractor of the Year to Hanford Applied Restoration & Conservation, for their delivery of the work; and Operations/Maintenance Professional of the Year to Belmont's Dustin Moore, for his essential contributions to citywide fleet services.
Congratulations to the honorees and thank you to all who contributed to this project's success.
National Police Week
As we wrap up the week, we want to again thank the officers of the Belmont Police Department for your service and commitment to keeping our community safe. Your dedication — from emergency response to everyday community engagement — is recognized and appreciated.

Hantavirus: What You Need to Know
Recent news of a cruise ship hantavirus outbreak has caused concern; however, this incident involved Andes virus, found only in South America and typically spreading through rodent urine and feces, though in very rare cases it can be transmitted from person to person after close, prolonged contact.
In California Sin Nombre virus is the main cause of hantavirus, and it cannot spread person-to-person. Human cases are rare and typically result from breathing in dust contaminated by infected rodent urine or feces.

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month
With nymphal (baby) ticks — as tiny as a poppy seed — becoming more active in the spring, now is the time to take precautions. These miniature ticks are responsible for most Lyme Disease infections, so always do a thorough tick check after spending time outdoors. While the risk in San Mateo County is low, it is not zero.
San Mateo County residents may request a free tick-bite prevention kit (allow several weeks for delivery) and learn more about tick prevention in the San Mateo County Mosquito & Vector Control District May Newsletter.
