NDNU and Stanford University Announce Decision to Wind Down Campus Development Option
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Feb. 25, 2025
Stanford University has announced that it has decided to step away from its option to purchase Notre Dame de Namur University’s (NDNU) academic campus within the City of Belmont. This decision is after careful evaluation of their broader priorities and does not reflect on the merits of the project or the collaboration between Stanford and the City.
“We appreciate Stanford’s engagement throughout this process and their thoughtful approach to exploring a shared vision for the site,” said Mayor Julia Mates. “While we welcomed the opportunity to see this project move forward, we remain committed to working with NDNU, as the property owners, and Stanford to ensure a smooth transition and to explore future opportunities that align with the City’s long-term planning goals.”
The City remains committed to working with NDNU in assessing future possibilities for the site and ensuring that any future development aligns with the community’s vision for economic growth, innovation, and sustainability.
“We thank Stanford’s team for their collaboration and commitment throughout this process,” said City Manager Afshin Oskoui. “The City looks forward to continuing our relationships with NDNU and Stanford, and working together on future initiatives that benefit both universities and our community.”
