MLK Jr. Poetry and Essay Contest
Belmont students in grades 3 – 12 can still submit their poem or essay until the end of day today, February 3rd. Students are asked to reflect on Dr. King’s quote “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is ‘what are you doing for others?’” This contest celebrates the passion, brilliance, and creativity of Belmont’s youth. Finalists will be selected and invited to recite their piece at the awards ceremony on Thursday, February 27th, 6 - 7:30pm at Twin Pines Lodge, with a chance to win a monetary prize donated by our generous sponsors. Superstar and Sweetheart Dance
We are just a few days away from our annual Superstar and Sweetheart Dances! Join us on Friday, February 7th at the Twin Pines Senior and Community Center for a night full of dancing and memories. The Superstar Dance, 6:30 - 7:30pm, is exclusively for youth who benefit from a more sensory-friendly environment and their guardians. The Sweetheart Dance, 7:30 - 9:30pm, is for ages 5 - 12 and their guardians. Both semi-formal dances include a live DJ, photobooth, crafts, refreshments, and a visit from a Disney princess! The Hideout Half-Year Registration
Registration for the Hideout half-year option is open! The Hideout is our after-school program, located at the Barrett Community Center. This is a fun and safe space for youth grades 6 - 8 to enjoy snacks, arts and crafts, sports, games, and more! The Hideout is open Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3 - 5pm and Wednesday from 1 - 5pm. Get more information and register here.

YAC Hygiene Product Drive
Belmont’s Youth Advisory Committee is hosting a hygiene product drive from January 31st – February 14th. Please donate unused hygiene products that will be brought to Samaritan House to be distributed to people in need. Drop off locations include Barrett Community Center and Twin Pines Community Center. Senior Valentines Day Social
Something sweet is coming to the Senior Center on Thursday, February 13th! At 10:15am we will get creative crafting (RSVP requested). Afterwards, Beef Pot Roast will be served for lunch at 11:30am - $6 suggested contribution: reservation required by February 8th. We’ll have dessert and play some Valentine’s Day themed BINGO. Youth Spelling Bee
Belmont's Youth Advisory Committee is hosting a youth spelling bee for grades K - 3rd on Saturday, March 22nd starting at 11am at the Barrett Community Center. Teen Wellness Retreat
We’re excited to co-host our second annual Teen Wellness Retreat with the City of San Carlos on Saturday, March 29th from 9am - 2pm at Barrett Community Center. This one-day event is an opportunity for grades 6 - 12 to destress and refresh their mental health. The day includes breakfast and lunch, boba, workshops, a resource fair, raffles, and giveaways--all for free! Register here.

Wedding Fair in the Park
Love is in the air this month. After the “YES!” comes the planning! Save the date for Wedding Fair in the Park this spring on Sunday, April 14th, 11am - 3pm at Twin Pines Park. All facilities and outdoor venues will be open for tours and the wedding expo will be held in the Twin Pines Senior and Community Center. Come meet local wedding vendors, sample delicious food and beverages, take fun photos, design your own bridal sash, win raffles, enjoy entertainment, and more! This event is FREE. Parks and Recreation Updates
Fire Safety Chipping Program
In early February, property owners west of Alameda de las Pulgas in Belmont will receive a mailer regarding a free chipping program being offered this March to help maintain defensible space for greater wildfire resiliency. This program is funded by a CAL FIRE grant and offered in coordination with San Mateo Consolidated Fire District. Chipping program guidelines and service dates will be included in the mailer or you may preview the communication here. Questions? Lunch Program Volunteers Needed
Join our team in Belmont and make a difference in your community by volunteering with our senior lunch program! We are currently looking for help on Wednesdays from 10am – 1pm. Responsibilities include setting up for lunch, serving meals, and assisting with clean-up. Your time and care will bring joy and connection to local seniors!
