Belmont Named One of the Best Bay Area Suburbs
The City of Belmont has been recognized as the second best suburb in the Bay Area! This ranking is a testament to our vibrant community, diverse culture, top-notch schools, and outstanding housing. The ranking was based on several factors, including diversity, the cost of living, the share of the population with college degrees, and the quality of schools and housing across 67 metros. We love our City and are happy to share this good news with our community as we continue to grow and thrive together.
Join the Community Center Conversation
As many of you have seen at our open houses or by visiting the site, our beloved 73-year-old Barrett Community Center was built as a school and is now well beyond its useful life. Meanwhile, the Belmont community of today and tomorrow needs a modern facility that meets current accessibility, earthquake, and fire safety standards.
It’s not too late to join the conversation! Attend an upcoming open house and complete the online survey. Our next Open House will be held Wednesday, May 8, 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Barrett Community Center. Get more information here.

Carlmont AVID Assisted Parks & Rec
Last week the Parks and Recreation Department teamed up with Carlmont High school’s AVID group for a beautification project at the Belmont Library. Volunteers performed some general maintenance as well as spread 4 truckloads of mulch inside landscape beds located in the parking lot of the library. Mulching helps retain moisture in the soil in the summer months while also providing a barrier to suppress weed growth. Thanks for all the great work!

Public Works Highlights
Public Works Operations staff continued to prepare for the 2024 Street Slurry Seal Project by crack sealing over 8,000 linear feet on several street segments. Staff also refreshed over 1,400 linear feet of red curb paint throughout the city. And finally, the streetlights are working on Ralston! Staff are working with a contractor to resolve a long list of street light outages, and this project took a big stride forward with the completion of multiple repairs resulting in the restoration of street light operation on Ralston from Lyall to Cipriani. We aim to resolve all known street light outages by the end of next week.
