Fort Smith Police arrest William Winters, 41, in May 2 home invasion

Fort Smith, AR - Fort Smith Police have identified 41-year-old parolee William Winters as the suspect in a May 2 home invasion during which he also assaulted two individuals. One of the victims, a juvenile female, fought back, causing Mr. Winters to flee the scene.

Mr. Winters was taken into custody this afternoon without further incident. He is being held on charges of aggravated residential burglary and parole violation at the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center.

We would like to thank the public for their assistance in identifying Mr. Winters, as well as the female juvenile who fought off Mr. Winters’ dangerous assault.

Fort Smith Chief of Police Danny Baker will be formally recognizing her for her bravery in a private ceremony at a later date. Her name is being withheld to protect her privacy.
