In it's work session on Tuesday, the Jefferson County Commission heard from representatives from the Central Alabama Redevelopment Alliance (CARA) and the Hispanic Intrest Coalition of Alabama (HICA), both organizations exceeded their projections for helping small businesses this year. The Commission improved an increase in funding for both organizations from $100,000 to $120,000 for the coming year. You can see the presentations by viewing the archive of the Live Stream.
Once a quarter the Commission meets in Bessemer. This week our special guests and recognitions were off the chart! First Commission President Jimmie Stephens recognized the First Baptist Church of Shannon for its 100th Anniversary! The church continues to bless and serve the community in so many ways.
Then Commissioner Tyson recognized the Birmingham Youth and Young Adult Fellowship Choir. This group appeared on America's Got Talent and received a Golden Ticket to compete this fall. Pictured below is just a portion of the choir and they graced everyone attending the meeting with a sample of their amazing voices.
