Commission Approves Contract For Construction of New Animal Care & Control Facility

The Jefferson County Commission met this week (you can view both the pre-commission and commission meeting in our video archive). One of the highlights was the approval of Stone Building as the lowest responsible bidder for the construction of the Jefferson County Animal Care and Control Facility project. This facility will be built adjacent to the new Greater Birmingham Humane Society adoption facility and animal hospital. Below is a look at how all three facilities will look. Jefferson County Roads and Transportation recently completed work improving the road intersection. Cost for construction of the Animal Control Facility is $21-million. 

Don Hawkins Recreation Center Open For November Voting

The Jefferson County Board of Registrars wants to clarify that while the Don Hawkins Recreation Center is closed, the gymnasium will be open for voting in November. If you need additional information on voting please visit our page here. 

Commission Provides Funds for Sweeping Corp. of America To Pick Up Roadside Litter

If you see Sweeping Corp of America trucks picking up litter in Jefferson County it’s because the Commission allocated $300k this year (partial year) and $500k next year for the removal of trash in targeted areas. There are more than 50 roads on the list across all Commission districts. #KeepItCleanJeffCo
