FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Two new cases of COVID-19 announced in two Alaska communitiesApril 24, 2020 ANCHORAGE — The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) today announced two new cases of COVID-19 in two communities: Anchorage (1) and Chugiak (1). This brings the total case count in Alaska to 339. These new cases were reported from 12:00 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. on April 23 and reflect data posted at noon today on coronavirus-response-alaska-dhss.hub.arcgis.com. Of the new cases, both are female. One is aged 10-19 and one is aged 20-29. There have been a total of 36 hospitalizations and nine deaths with no new hospitalizations or deaths reported yesterday. The total number of recovered cases is now 208 which reflects a decrease of one case from yesterday. This is the result of data verification efforts that identified the inadvertent inclusion of a person who tested positive for COVID-19 but did not have any symptoms on the day of the test. This case is not considered “recovered” until the person meets the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's criteria to be released from home isolation and are no longer considered to be infectious.
